1940 Elgin Twin 60
This model “60” Twin-Bar bicycle was the top of the line for 1940, and was the most expensive bike you could buy from Sears at the time. It features aluminum fenders, chromed rack and gothic chain guard. The rack has a battery canister built into it that is streamlined like the rest of the bike. It also features a speedometer and built-in headlight, with a “tank” suspended below the top bars of the frame. The Twin-Bar frame was the most unusual design of the pre-ww2 balloon tire era, and is a collectors favorite today. The example shown here was a fresh “barn find” that turned up on eBay in the early 2000’s.
